Richard "Dick" CRAWSHAW He died on 3rd December 2019 Aged 74 yrs. Formerly of Manchester City, Manchester & Salford & GMP Dick joined the Manchester City Police cadets in July 1962 and became a Constable in June 1964 when he was posted to the B Division at Willert Street. In 1968 he became one of the first Unit Beat Officers, responsible for the scenic village of Newton Heath. In 1969 having joined straight from school, he left the police to gain experience of life and became a representative for a National Business Systems Company. In April 1974 he re-joined the newly formed Greater Manchester Police, and was posted to the Q Division at Oldham. In February 1976 he was promoted Sergeant and was posted to the C Division at Mill Street; then in 1977 he transferred to the Training School as Training Sergeant at Oldham, later moving to Sedgley Park. In 1979 he was promoted to Inspector responsible for Constable Training and Promotion Study. On leaving the training school in 1982 he served as Patrol Inspector in Oldham. Dick returned to Sedgley Park in 1985 as Acting Chief Inspector to assist in the Force Training of P.A.C.E, followed by Management Training. In 1987 he became substantive Chief Inspector as a Director of Studies at The Home Office Crime Prevention Centre. During this secondment he went to America as visiting lecturer to The Department of Justice, Washington DC, and The National Crime Prevention Institute of America, in Kentucky. In 1989 at the end of his secondment he returned to GMP and was posted to Stockport Division. In 1991 he was promoted to
Superintendent Deputy of The Force Personnel
Department. Then in 1993 he was Superintendent
Cheadle Hulme;1995 Superintendent Oldham Subdivision;
2001 Superintendent J Division Stockport.; 2003 Staff
officer to A.C.C Operations, Chester House.
Finally retiring in June 2004 he became active in
