Albert Leach
It is my sad
duty to inform you of the Passing of Albert Leach 91
years a member of the Manchester &
District Branch.
Albert sadly
died on the 19th February 2024.
Albert had
a distinguished Police career.
He was a
Sergeant on the B Division and was both the Admin Sergeant and
also a Driving Instructor. He was promoted to the Rank of
Inspector and worked in the Traffic Unit at Longsight.
He rose to
the Rank of Chief Superintendent where he was in charge of the
Force Personnel department and the E Division which he commanded
at the time of the Moss Side Riots in 1981.
Albert had
a keen interest in both Police and Military history and
organised trips to the War cemeteries. He also assisted in
ensuring that Police Memorials were maintained.
After
retirement from the Police he worked as a painter and decorator.
He
was also a member of the Caminada Society where he was the
President.
